<title>Tesco’s branches out into gardening</title>
<link>http://www.onlinegardeners.co.uk/Article8.html</link>
<description>

SUPERMARKET giant Tesco extended its reach even further yesterday after agreeing a £155m deal to buy one of the UK’s biggest garden centre chains.

The offer for Dobbies, with 21 stores focused on Scotland and northern England, allows Tesco to capitalise on the current boom in gardening and related demand for “green” products, such as composting kits and water butts.

Tesco pledged to maintain the Dobbies brand, which dates back to 1865, and run the business along existing lines. However, it is likely to pursue expansion in the south of England and offer a greater range of carbon-efficient products including insulation and solar panels.

<title>Red-faced publishers</title>
<link>http://www.onlinegardeners.co.uk/Article4.html</link>
<description>

Red-faced publishers face a huge headache after having to recall hundreds of books which mistakenly advise gardeners to use banned pesticides.

The updated paperback version of Pests and Diseases, endorsed by the Royal Horticultural Society, is described as ‘the definitive guide to preventing, identifying and treating plant problems’.

But it contains recommendations to use chemicals that are now illegal and have been withdrawn from sale. The errors were spotted after the book arrived for review.</description>
